WATERMARK 2009 steel, copper, blown glass 12' x 6' x 5'
Suspended from the ceiling of the Performing Arts Building at Montgomery College, Watermark is comprised of a boat-shaped vessel of twisted steel pipe containing hand-blown glass spheres. The light enters the atrium, passes through the orange-colored glass, and casts colored shadows throughout the circulation space below. These shadows become inherent features of the building, like a watermark in a sheet of paper, an ephemeral feature only visible when light passes through. The balls seem to be spilling from the vessel, trapped in a static snapshot amidst a seemingly chaotic event.
